A real mouthful of a home made beefburger. Situated just off the main promenade and having chosen the healthier option for lunch, time to gorge on a succulent beef burger. The burger was definitely big, a bit too big, and I couldn't seem to hold it all together! However the meat was tasty and succulent. The accompanied side was Dave's own, home cut potato fries...yum. The place i felt was reasonably decorated, however, it's main function was that of a bar, and not as an all out restaurant, so it was again a shot in the dark. The place was clean, service was quick although the bill was pricey, although, inline with the notion of tourist town tourist prices! Nicaragua's cuisine has a very interesting background. When the Spanish came, they found out that the Creole had a cooking culture already, had interesting dishes of their own, and had learned to prepare corn in almost any way one can think of. Creoles and Garifunas had been living there long enough as to have a very rich cooking tradition. Later on it mixed with the Spanish cuisine, making thus a very interesting product. Nicaraguans eat some dishes that to other countries may seem strange, as they eat turtle eggs, boas, and some other species going to extinction. Some of Nicaragua's finest coffee producers left for Miami during the political instability of the late 1970s. Coffee production has recovered somewhat but the country is still dealing with the legacy and aftermath of political and economic reforms. Most Nicaraguan coffee is used for blends. It's the morning after the night before..and the head hurts! Decided I needed a an old English hangover cure: a big fry up! But where to go in Granada? The Nica Buffet was recommended to me, I was told that it might have been closed down, but when I got there it was well and truly open. Tucked in between Calle Vega and Calle Atravesada, (around the corner from the Managua bus terminal), I was greeted with a buzz of activity.
